Surprise! I have been waiting for what feels like forever to launch my re-designed site and I am so happy to welcome you to the new and improved Classic & Gray!
When I started C&G last August, I had no idea what I was doing (okay, let’s be honest- this is still very much a work in progress). With zero blogging knowledge and limited digital media experience, I threw together a website to the best of my ability, snapped some pictures on my iPhone, typed up an
extensive bio, and hit “publish”. I’ve basically been flying by the seat of my pants since then but as Classic & Gray started to gain momentum, I knew I needed to step up my game and create a site that better represented myself and my style (good-bye Bokeh background!).
I envisioned a new site that was clean, modern, and feminine. I wanted the new C&G to be simplistic and easy to navigate yet allow you to find new areas and posts to explore. We worked really hard to bring you just that and there are some fun new features that I’m excited to share! In addition to the aesthetics, there are now several areas where you can shop my favorites directly. We’ve added a Shop page that will be updated with my absolute must-have items, areas to shop what’s in my make-up bag, on my current wish list, and some fun new categories coming soon 🙂 A huge thank you to Phi from Moda Blog Management who made this all possible.
Although I was supposed to share an outfit post today (which will now go up tomorrow), as I was writing it, this post took a different turn. I haven’t been super personal in a little bit and being this is a “fresh start” of sorts, I figured what better time than now to be open and honest.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, I took a month-long break from blogging. Yes, re-designing the site did take up a lot of time. Sure, it did rain for like a solid three weeks and shooting a look was near impossible. Yes, I’m still very much dealing with my health issues, despite the fact that I haven’t focused on talking about them much lately. However, there were other reasons that held me back from creating a post and as this is a diary of sorts, I thought I’d fill you in. Let me preface this with saying that I am by no means complaining at all. As always, I am sharing bits of my story and letting you in on some of the real life behind the blog.
Since the beginning, I have made it clear that Classic & Gray is my creative outlet from a life very-much affected by some pretty debilitating health issues (after all, that was the motivation to start it to begin with! [If you’re new, more on that, here]). I wasn’t sure how it would all work, what I’d write about, what kind of schedule I could keep, and more importantly, what I would physically be able to do but I was craving some sort of purpose and creativity. I decided that blogging about the things that make me happy was the answer and Classic & Gray was born.
If you are not in the industry, you may not realize how time-consuming blogging and all that it entails can be. Again, I’m not complaining as this is a hobby that I want to do but that doesn’t take away from the amount of work that is involved. It takes hours upon hours between content creation, shooting, editing, planning, collaborating, writing, social media management, promoting, interacting, etc., and for me, it all has to be done during the fleeting moments in which I feel up to doing so. There are so many behind the scenes workings of a blog that I never accounted for and I truly admire and respect anyone else on this journey. I would love to be able to create fresh content every day but due to the limitations set forth by my health, I am unable to devote as much time as I’d like right now. I have accepted this fact from day one but lately, I’ve also faced a new scenario that has limited my time.
I was informed by my doctors early on that my road to recovery would be a marathon, not a sprint. I am elated to say that after over a year and a half, I am finally starting to notice some slow but steady improvements. After everything I’ve gone through, I am so thankful for the days when I have some energy and can get out of bed and get dressed. I am even more blessed to now have moments, whether they be minutes or hours, where I feel good enough to venture out of the apartment, enjoy doing ‘normal’ things, and spend time with the people I care about (I never thought I’d look forward to food shopping but any progress is something to be celebrated!). Although I have a long way to go, this little bit of newfound freedom has me quickly realizing that I want to live my life when I’m able to.
I have missed out on mostly everything for the better part of the last 20 months and I want to capitalize on and appreciate every good period of time I have. It is very easy to get wrapped up in wanting to share all of those moments but I made the conscious decision that I want to be present instead. This means not always snapping a picture for Instagram, writing out a blog post, sharing a story on Snapchat, or living behind my phone answering emails, questions, and comments. Although I do very much enjoy those things, I want to be front and center for every new experience that comes my way. After being down for so long, I have a lot of catching up to do! I love blogging and it has given me so much drive and motivation to do everything in my power to get well. I am still trying to find that perfect balance where I can accomplish it all but in the mean time, please trust that I am going to continue to make every effort I can to be more present here, as well.
To wrap this up, I just want to say thank you. Whether you have been ride-or-die since the beginning or are a new face here for the first time, I appreciate every single one of you that visit this page. It truly means so much to me that you are following along! This blog is a labor of love and I want Classic & Gray to be a place that you want to visit. Whether it’s an outfit post, a beauty review, or rambling about life (ehemm…today) I am so excited to continue to share new content with you. Grab a drink, kick your feet up, and stay a while! I hope you enjoy the new site as much as I do.
