Two Skincare Brands You Should Know

This post is a lengthier one so let’s get right into it! I’ve been testing out several different skincare lines lately in my obsessive constant effort to improve my skin. Two of the brands I’ve been so excited to share with you are Tula and Tatcha. I didn’t want to review these products without really trying them so my opinions below are based off of nearly two months of consistent use. Side note: All products are non-comedognic (won’t clog pores) as this is concern of mine and for reference, I have sensitive, dry skin with small hormonal breakouts.

First up…Tula. I cannot say enough good things about this brand! I’ve raved about their products so much that I’ve swayed friends and family into purchasing some of my favorites. A little background- the Tula entire skincare line is based off of the power of probiotics and was actually created by Gastroenterologist Dr. Raj. You’re probably wondering why an internal medicine doctor created a skincare line but Dr. Raj realized that just as probiotics help to balance out the digestive system, they can also do the same for your skin (Tula actually means “balance” in Sanskrit.) There is plenty of science to back this theory up (Google it- I dare you!) and if you’re still a skeptic, take a look at all of the positive reviews on this line. I, myself, was unsure of whether this “new technology” would actually make a difference on my fickle skin but let me tell you…I am now a believer! I own five of the six core products and they’ll be repurchased again and again. Let’s talk a little more detail about each specific product below but just a tip- if you’d like to try out the line without purchasing the full-sized product, the Discovery Kit is the way to go! Purifying Face Cleanser: First off, the smell of this face wash is amazing. It has such a clean and subtle scent! I’ve been using this almost every morning and evening with my Clarisonic and I think it’s a good base for any skincare regimen. I find that it really cleans my skin without over-drying it.

Illuminating Face Serum: This has to be one of my favorites. I apply this serum liberally every single morning and evening after I wash my face. It is so lightweight and makes my skin look refreshed and alive. It is a perfect base for makeup application and completely absorbs into the skin. Any serum is supposed to be applied before moisturizer so that all of the benefits seep into the skin. This one helps promote even skin tone and diminish the look of dark spots.

Hydrating Day & Night Cream: Probably, my second favorite product, this cream has worked wonders for my dry skin. I remember reading that Somewhere Lately said that this product was even better than the super-expensive La Mer. I apply it most mornings and at bed time after the serum and any other face products I’ve used to seal them in and moisturize my skin. It’s really helped to keep my skin hydrated and has reparative and preventative anti-aging benefits.

Revitalizing Eye Cream: I really enjoy using this eye cream and have been doing so every morning and night. I will be honest and say that I haven’t noticed a reduction in wrinkles per say, but I don’t think it’d be realistic to assume that I would after only a couple months. I am almost 30 so I’m beginning to see fine lines here and there (as I wipe away a tear.) My mail goal is to try to prevent the further appearance of aging and I think this product definitely helps in doing so by keeping my under-eye area moisturized and plump!

Exfoliating Treatment Mask: I love a good mask. This one is different from any other I own because it has tiny exfoliating beads. I use this product either one of two ways; I apply it to my skin for about 10 minutes and then after dampening my fingers, massage it into my skin before washing off. The tiny beads help exfoliate any dead skin while actually hydrating the skin at the same time when they burst! I also spot-treat by applying a thin layer over any blemishes. When I do this at night, the blemish appearance is drastically reduced by morning.

Last but not least, Tatcha. I first heard of Tatcha while watching some extremely popular makeup guru’s on YouTube. I was actually looking into the raved-about Dewy Skin Mist when I came across the rest of their line. Tatcha is a skincare line created inspired by beauty secrets and philosophies practiced by both modern-day and ancient geishas. Victoria Tsai, Tatcha’s founder, created this line after suffering with problematic skin and really wanted to focus on the importance of natural an gentle ingredients. These products have hundreds of positive reviews on both the brand site and Sephora and an amazing Happiness Guarantee to back it all up. You can also search their site by Product, Benefit, Skin Type, or Ritual which makes it really easy to find what you’re looking for and they also have a Discovery Kit for starters. You really can’t go wrong! I will be repurchasing these products as well and am really looking forward to trying out some new ones!

Pure One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil: I will fully admit that at first, I was really skeptical about using this product. I’m typically not a fan of putting oil on my face but this is not like the rest. I had been looking for ways to remove my makeup without the tugging that is caused by makeup wipes. I LOVE this product for just that. I pump two pumps into my hands at night, lather it all over my face, eyes and all, and then wash it off. It takes off all of my makeup, even mascara, and rinses off with zero greasy feeling. This is because the oils emulsify completely so there is no residue left behind! (This is step-one in Tatcha’s Kyoto Cleanse ritual.)

Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder: This powder product was a first for me. It is “a creamy, water-activated enzyme powder exfoliant and cleanser of Rice Bran, papaya enzymes and our anti-aging HADASEI-3™.” I use this after the Cleansing Oil and apply a small amount of the powder in my hands and mix it with water to form a paste. I massage it onto my face, avoiding the eye area,  and then wash it off. My skin feels so smooth when I’m done! (This is step-two in Tatcha’s Kyoto Cleanse ritual.)

Silken Pore Perfecting Sunscreen: The final step in my routine. I love this sunscreen and it’s probably the most important product I use. In years past I’ve always shied away from using sunscreen for fear of it causing breakouts. Unfortunately, skin cancer runs in my immediate family so I knew I needed to smarten up and find a product that is preventative without clogging my pores. This product does just that and put my fears to rest. It is not oily or greasy at all and once applied, I can’t even feel that I’m wearing it. I apply it on-top of my serum and moisturizer as sunscreen is supposed to lay on top of the skin and act as a barrier. It is also the perfect primer for makeup.

Have you tried either of these skincare lines or have any other products that have worked for you? I’d love to hear! As always, thanks for reading!

michele–first, you have amazing skin and you did a great job on reviewing these products. i like how you can go from fashion to beauty. do your thangggg girl! second, your skincare game is on point. i am so proud of you for two things i can relate to personally. 1) clarisonic (helloooo holy grail item!!) and 2) tatcha. i am so with you on the oil on face. like WHAT?! haha, but i am such a believer in cleansing oil, it’s the best at taking everything off your face so that you can get the most of the clarisonic — right?!! the enzyme powder is also a great product of tatcha!! (tatcha oil + powder = LETHAL combo!!) and the sunscreen (soo impt like you stated!!).. my goodness. yes, i have tried all their products… and i can literally talk skincare with you all day. but then i don’t think you’ll want to be my friend. and ps–you are correct, you can never give an eye cream a good review until you have used it for i’d say a good year! those results don’t come overnight. and it’s all about prevention! and girll… don’t get me started on fine lines #hello31. ok. i’ll stop here. lol love ya xoxo,
