It’ll soon be that time of year again when the weather starts to slowly warm up (praise hands emoji) and we begin transitioning from winter to spring! Every year, I take advantage of March and April to clean out my closet and re-evaluate what is needed. I purge everything that hasn’t been worn recently and pull out the pieces that will help carry my wardrobe into the next season.
One of my fashion guidelines is that typically, unless it’s for a special occasion or an item I can’t live without (you’d be surprised how many of those there are), I splurge on accessories and staples and save when it comes to clothing. I find that I get a lot more wear out of the “finishing touches” so by investing in the pieces that get the most use, I actually dimish the cost per wear. You can easily elevate an outfit from H&M or Forever21 with a quality bag, shoes, or nice pair of sunnies! #fakeittilyoumakeit. When ThredUp approached me about trying out their high-quality online consignment store to refresh my wardrobe for Spring, I realized I could have the best of both worlds. Count me in.
I knew where the gaps were in my wardrobe and found two pieces that I needed to own.
A lightweight jacket is a must-have for any season. I noticed that I had a lot of heavy winter coats and lightweight cargo jackets but not much to bridge the gap. I spotted this BB Dakota Faux Leather Jacket for $35.99 (originally $107) and knew it’d be the perfect addition! I had previously tried on similar styles by this brand and already knew the fit and quality (the faux leather is buttery soft) and the gray color, well…you know I needed it.
I’m also a big fan of Vince clothing but if you’re not familiar with the brand, the price tag can be quite steep. I found this Vince Sweater Tank for $38.99 (originally $190) and absolutely love it! A sleeveless sweater is the perfect transitional piece for multiple reasons. You can layer it in the winter as I’ve done (think open chambray shirt or chunky cardigan) and wear it as-is in the summer! I picture this layered over a lace bralette with white capris or distressed denim shorts and espedrilles.
If you’ve done the math, my jacket and sweater (retail cost $300) originally came to $74.98 on ThredUp but after the 40% discount you get off of your first order upon signing up, my grand total was $56.98, including expedited shipping! YASSSS. Just a fair warning because this is a place of honest opinion; If you checkout on the mobile site like I did and don’t meet the minimum free shipping requirement, under the “shipping options” section, it appears that you only have the choice to select expedited shipping ($11.99.) Although it may not seem like it, you have the option to not check the box, in which you will only be charged the regular shipping price of $5.99. Just a $6 tip 😉
What items are musts in your closet each season?
As always, thanks for reading!
